Old Faithful Snow Lodge / Yellowstone National Park, WY
Modern fenestration in a rustic, national park lodge
The fabulous Old Faithful Snow Lodge is a 90,000+ square foot structure. Millions of visitors come every year to shop, dine, lodge and lounge in its rustic splendor.
In keeping with classic national park style, the three-story lodge features beautiful wood casings and natural log posts and beams, as well as Marvin windows that withstand the extreme elements, meet stringent local preservation codes and harmonize with the park environment. “The design of the Snow Lodge had to be complementary to the historical surroundings of this national landmark and work as a stand-alone building. We used modern means and methods to achieve a rustic aesthetic. One of the things that made this building compatible with its surroundings was the windows: their scale, pattern and use of wood,” said Dennis Deppmeier, Principal, A & E Architects.
